Ok, so I have was messing around last night, and I went through every single driver in my Device Manager and checked for updates on each one, even the ones that I knew wouldn't have updates, and updated all the ones that needed them.  I then logged out of Windows, restarted the computer and let it run for an hour.  I closed the lid, and she slept.  This morning, I opened it and it woke no problem.  I hit the power button one, and she slept. Woke with no problem.  I selected Sleep from the Power menu, and again, no problem.  Even tried not plugged in, and it's fine.  The only problem I'm having now is getting the computer to sleep after a selected number of minutes.  I tried one and five minutes just to get the thing to go to sleep on its own quickly so I could see what would happen, but the screen just goes off.  I'm now putting the timer on for an hour to see if it sleeps on its own that way.  I'll come back later to report.

It acted just fine all day, closing the lid a few times and then just now, I closed the lid and it hung.  So, it definitely isn't anything that can be fixed via updating drivers in the Device Manager.

Hello everyone. I have been silently following this thread form the very beggining and feeling your pain. Just like all of you I am extremely baffaled at how indifferent they have been this whole time.

I have come to terms to the fact that there is no permanent solution. We only have to wait until we run out of patience, but until then, I'm curious to know what the people who are still waiting doing to work around the issue. I hate having to force shut down my computer everytime. 😞

There hasn't been a workaround for me.  It's been a hard shutdown everynight, except last night when I updated pretty much every driver I could find, logged out, and restarted.  That's why I had hope that I did something to fix it.  Alas, nothing.

You do know that others have tried your "fix" and it has not worked for them, don't you?

Besides, I am not sure (and am willing to be told something different), that there is ANYTHING different between the ISO image and the Windows Update image.  As far as I know, they are the same.

I am actually considering a FULL OUT clean install requiring a FULL NUKE of my HD.  This is usually the best way to go (and failsafe, as I have the recovery media for 8.1 if needed).  Some things to keep in mind.

1.  A CLEAN INSTALL -- that is, a full nuke of the HD and installing 10 from ISO requires that you first ascertain a Win10 Key.  The way to get this is by running the following from a command prompt (admin) wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

2.  You cannot install Win10 without first upgrading to Win10 from a previously activated (legal) version.  The KEY needs to be upgraded to Win10 format before it will be useful.

3.  Prior to a FULL CLEAN install (I call it the "nuke option") make note of the various hardware you have.  Video, Wireless, Audio, etc.  It should not be an issue but in the event it is you have the needed information in order to grab the drivers.

...this is, of course, my final option if HP/MS does not get this resolved prior to the 30 day drop dead date. If I am forced to go back to 8.1 and ISO over the OS I might as well NUKE the drive and blow Win10 on it directly.  I have the needed Win10 key in hand.  I see little point, if I need to go back, to dropping the ISO over 8.1.  Most techies are of the opinion that NUKE OPTION clean installs of OS's are the best way to go.

Just got an update via the HP Support Assistant thing 15 or so minutes ago, but this is the first time I've gotten one on Windows 10 and I'm not sure if this is something they have sent out recently. I'll post the results about an hour or so later if whatever was in the update fixed the issue. Not sure if the HP Assistant ever has done fixed stuff like this, but you never know.

Sat3rn, you sir are the MAN!  This is working so far for me, laptop sleeps and wakes up as expected now.

FYI Fix that worked:

*Sigh* I reverted to win 8.1 from win 10 than got my BIOS updated than went back to win 10, not from the Get Windows icon but from the Media Creation Tool from microsofts website .... tested sleep/hibernate 50+ times now no issues....
