Well, I tried your solution of going back to Win 8.1 update BIOS (to the latest i.e. F.42)and then again upgrade to Windows 10. I may be the first one, but somehow it didn't solve anything for me --> for HP Envy Touchsmart 15 k102tx. But the point is I clean installed Win 10 instead of upgrading-->as in case you run into trouble booting up your OS, in case, and your repair and clean option(while booting from iso) fail to repair, I dont think so that you will again revert back to Win 8.1 and perform an upgrade operation again. You might always do a clean install then. Right?

@Sibu16 -- LOL. Read my previous comment. You got yours in before I finished mine. 🙂

What I find really strange about this, is the fact that everything works fine, exactly like it should, for the first 10 to 15 minutes of switching on the laptop. So what's the trigger?! Surely something like that should be easy to pick up and fix?

Well for me, its not just 15 minutes, it can even be 1-2 hours, provided that you just log on and do nothing, leave it and come to shut down after 1 hour or so. The problem occurs when i run some programs or install something new. Looks like after a certain time or after running some programs, it triggers a certain type of buggy operation, which prevents it from proper sleep/restart/shutdown and hibernate. Well we are the ones who have upgraded their OS. I am just wondering, what about those, who have bought new laptops with Windows 10 pre-installed. Are they too facing such problems. If not, then it looks like MS might remain ignorant as usual about our issue, which might get accidentally fixed in the future by any of their updates.
Seriously, MS is extremely ignorant about such critical issue, no idea what it fixed in its 11 August cumulative update!!!

That is a good point.
I was also wondering about NEW laptops running Win10 pre-installed. Anyone know someone who has bought one off the shelf?
Personally, if I were to buy a new Win10 laptop off the shelf I would make the store open the box, fire up the system, let it sit there for a few hours, play some games, open some apps, and then try to make it sleep BEFORE buying it. 🙂

Yes I had wondered about the new laptops too, especially as their plastered all over the main pages of HP. I can't imagine they'll be facing the same issues somehow, but then what's the difference?
As for the 2 Microsoft updates, I've checked the log files and there's a few things listed that haven't installed for some reason and there's no way of trying to get them installed either. But I can't see any improvements anywhere. If anything it's caused more problems for me because my mail and calendar apps don't work anymore. Even though they were both fine before the first cumulative update.

Mine's a Pavillion 15, but I refuse to roll back to 8.1 unless HP or Microsoft instruct me to do so.
I'm not saying I don't believe what you say, you've got no reason to lie about it. But I just think if that was an official fix then someone official would of came out and said so, and I just don't want to risk making a bigger mess of things.
Edit: I know one thing though, HP now considers me an intern, so by the time this is through I should be an expert.

looks like its MS fault, which released Win 10 in a hurry by giving less time to the OEMs, thereby recruting us as Beta Testers. Sony has strongly recommended its users not to upgrage their system to windows 10 untill October ending. And in the other end, we(including me) are crying out out of impatience.

I am thankful to MS for this! I always wanted to be a BETA tester. I can now cross it off my bucket list. 🙂
