So I have a OLD HP pavilion entertainment PC dv6000 (idk if that gives a full image of what type of PC it is) and everything on it works but the screen it will makes noises every now and then when I get lucky and make it make sounds but the screen never turns on I opened it up and to me it didn’t look like anything was wrong but I couldn’t get the whole screen off without worrying I was gonna break the screen. It would be amazing if anyone could help me figure out what’s wrong with it!

Hi @Mysalsa145,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion dv6000 powers on and makes sounds, but the screen never displays anything. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check external display
Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV via VGA or HDMI.
If the external display works, the problem is likely the internal screen or its cable, not the motherboard.

Inspect the screen cable connection
Turn off the laptop, remove the battery, and unplug the charger.
Carefully check the LVDS/eDP cable that connects the motherboard to the screen. Reseat it firmly if possible, but avoid bending the screen.

Check screen backlight
Shine a flashlight at the screen at an angle while the laptop is on.
If you see a very faint image, the backlight (or inverter, if applicable) has failed.

Test with known good screen (optional)
If available, connect a known working screen from a similar dv6000 laptop.
If that works, your original screen is defective.

Listen for normal boot sounds
If you hear Windows starting but the screen stays black, this confirms the display or cable is the issue.
No video at all and no BIOS splash may point to motherboard video failure.

I hope this helps.
