Probook 455 G2
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

Hi all,

We have a few HP ProBook 455 G2. We have the pre boot select user for login enabled. However the password isn't working for the user.

Is it possible that some CMOS issue has caused the BIOS screen to forget the password?

We know the Bios Admin password. We're unable to select the Bios Admin as user to login as. Is it possible to login as the BIOS admin?

Thanks

Dave

Hi,

I've got exactly the same issue with a 455 G2 and Windows 10. Been on with support for 2 hours this morning and ended up telling me I'd need a new system board, after suggesting I try 12345678 as my password ?!?

Windows key +B - goes to blank screen, flashing ctrl button and fan on 100%.

Tried BIOS reset USB, but goes to login screen with new admin user ID selected.

Can't get a SMC.bin file from them because they need to know the UUID of the motherboard, which I can't get to because it's past the login screen.

As you say, there must be a way to choose the default Administrator account to login.

Regards,

Chris

Eureka!!!

I eventually found a post detailling adding a new BIOS user (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01631186).

Step 6 highlights the initial password it creates for the new user is the same as the username - obviously! - why didn't HP support tell me that???

That's let me get back in - yey!!!

Thankfully I hadn't fried the EEPROM by shorting it

Hopefully this helps others.
