Hp 15-ba016ds
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I started with the selected boot device failed.   I went through the recovery,  and then reset the system if which neither one worked.   I got the message boot device failed press continue,  when I pressed it,  the laptop shut off.   Finally I was walked through hardware diagnostics.   The memory test passed.   The drive one smart check  says warning not available,  and Long DST not available.   There is no error numbers.   Before this happened I reinstalled a printer that was already on the laptop before.

Hey there! @Ria68, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Are you able to boot into BIOS or F2 from your PC?

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

Long DST not available indicates an issue with the hard drive.

This generally means the hard drive is not responding to a testing inquiry from the motherboard and provides pretty strong evidence the hard drive needs to be replaced.

However, try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.

  3. Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices.

  4. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

  5. Remove the battery from the battery compartment.

  6. Press and hold down the Power button for 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge.

  7. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook computer.

  8. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

  9. If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, then press the Enter key.

  10. Reconnect each of the peripheral devices.

Restore BIOS default settings

Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
Press F10 to Save and Exit.
Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Lastly, if the issue still persists after trying out the steps. Replace the faulty drive on the PC.
