I understand you are facing an issue that occurs when the CMOS battery is replaced or the motherboard loses its DMI (Desktop Management Interface) data. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

I manage to write all the details to the bios now and no post error at all! 🙂

But i still got a question, the battery is not charging at all when i am booted in Windows, but when i shut down the computer the diode turns red and start to charge.

When i booted in Windows and plug out the charger and plug it back in it charges for like 5 seconds and brighen up the laptop screen, after 5 seconds, it returns to battery power, what is the problem? could i "force" it to use the adapter?

(i got only a 60w power adapter right now, it seems that it required a 120w)

Thanks for getting back to us @pavilion5045

Thanks for sharing the details. You're doing a great job reviving your HP Pavilion 15-bc007.

1. Battery Charging Issue in Windows

Your symptoms strongly suggest power adapter mismatch:

  • The Pavilion 15-bc007 typically requires a 120W adapter. Using a 60W adapter causes:
    • Charging only when the system is off or idle.
    • Power draw exceeding adapter capacity during Windows operation, forcing fallback to battery.
    • Brief charging when replugged, then dropping due to power negotiation failure.

Solution:

  • Replace the 60W adapter with a genuine HP 120W Smart AC Adapter (part numbers like 741727-001 or 741727-003).
  • Avoid third-party adapters unless they match HP’s wattage and smart pin specifications.

Why it matters:

  • HP laptops use smart pin communication to verify adapter wattage.
  • Insufficient wattage can throttle performance, disable charging, or cause erratic behavior.
