Pavilion Power 15-cb0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

The HP support assistant had a BIOS update under "recommended" updates, so I installed it. After downloading, the laptop rebooted and installed the BIOS. However,  the laptop starts up slow now (also does not start all startup programs, like nvidia, anti virus and realtek, but let's leave that for later).

I have BIOS Insyde F.16 now according to system information.

Ideally I would just roll back the BIOS, I found the HP download page, but I do not know which version I had before. (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-power-15-cb000-laptop-pc/15551388/model...) Which older version should I get?

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I have gone through your Post and I would like to help

Before trying to download the previous BIOS version, I suggest you perform a BIOS Recovery first

  1. Turn off the computer, and then connect the power cord.

  2. Press and hold the Windows key  and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds.

  3. Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps.

The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the recovery begins automatically. Follow any on-screen prompts to continue the startup to complete the recovery.

If the Rollback doesn't work, then you can try downloading the previous BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-pavilion-power-15-cb000-laptop-pc/1555...

I would also suggest you perform a System Restore to an earlier time if the issue persists

- Select the Start button, type control panel and then choose it from the list of results.
- Search Control Panel for Recovery.
- Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
- Choose the restore point prior to the start of the issue and then select Next > Finish.

You can also refer to the troubleshooting steps in this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04770630 for slow performance

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a great weekend 😊

Thanks, the win key + B seemed to fix the problem...

However just now, my laptop randomly rebooted (the screen was black as I was not using it, so not sure if there was a crash or anything) and again not all startup programs have been loaded. I don't understand; will rolling BIOS back fix this issue?

A system restore, I will not do. I would have to reinstall windows. I have not had ANY problems until that BIOS update, fsince the first boot after it... I did not change, install or update anything else! The startup programs are in registry and enabled, so I'm sure this is HPs update.

System Restore will not delete anything. It will only revert back the Notebook to how it was before the issue started. You do not have to reinstall the Windows when doing System Restore

Since you mentioned that the issue started after the BIOS update, then you can attempt the Rollback and it should fix it.

The Notebook will go to Sleep or Hibernation and the screen will go blank if the Notebook is not been used

Thank you 😊

Hi,

What I meant was, I do not have a recovery point, so I'd have to reinstall windows. But it is not a windows problem! I made a bootable USB stick by running the F.14 file from the download page, but it did not seem to work when restarting? (perhaps I am doing something wrong)

However, I did go into BIOS and set it back to default. Now I had not changed anything, but maybe the update did since it seems to work again.
