After Windows updates, took 35 minutes to restart; still, didn't fully boot up. Restarted, took 12 minutes.
Should I do a reinstall of OS?
This is refurbished.
Running McAfee LiveSafe full scan now..... slow.

Really SLOW PC is nearly always caused by a failing hard drive.
If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024
If not, to check the drive you have to follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu
3) Press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.

Thank you, WAWood for such a timely response.
I think the issue is?was updates. This is a refurbished computer and Win10 Home came preinstalled but I had to initiate it's loading when I first powered up. Updates have been coming in and sometimes they run in the background so I'm unaware.
When I restart, I sometimes see there are updates installing; yesterday was not such a case--it took a LONG time to get the Start button to function and it didn't reboot completely. Today, after last night's updates, all is running smoothly.
I appreciate your time and expertise. I anticipate I will have future questions as I am new to this machine and I want to maintain it a long time.
Cheers
