HP Notebook 17"
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After using the Windows power button to shut down my computer, sometimes different things happen upon startup. Sometimes Chrome is open with all the tabs I had open in my previous session, and sometimes I need to reopen Chrome and start from scratch.

Why the difference even though I've used the power button to shut down the computer in both instances, not putting it into sleep or hibernation mode?

Hi! @DeeDoubleU,

Have you tried checking with a different browser? Does the issue persist?

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

To fix this, either right-click on a tab and select 'Reopen closed tab' from the context menu or press Ctrl+Shift+T.

Could you try using the following steps to restore the tab. Please check the history section of your Google Chrome if you are able to see all the visited websites? If yes, then use the steps below:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More.
  3. Click History and then History.
  4. On the left, click Tabs from other devices.

Your profile account might have been corrupted. Try creating a new browser user profile and check if that makes a difference

Reset Chrome settings to default

You can restore your browser settings in Chrome at any time. You might need to do this if apps or extensions you installed changed your settings without your knowledge. Your saved bookmarks and passwords won't be cleared or changed.

On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
At the bottom, click Advanced.
Chromebook, Linux, and Mac: Under "Reset Settings," click Restore settings to their original defaults and then Reset Settings.
Windows: Under "Reset and cleanup,” click Reset Settings and then Reset Settings.

Thank you for all the detailed information.      Really I was just wondering why sometimes after I've used the power button to "shut down", all previously open programs and tabs return upon start-up, and why sometimes everything is shut down and I need to manually reopen them.

It's not a big deal or even something I need to solve.    Mostly I'm curious about the inconsistency when performing the same actions.

This is a brand new computer, so I doubt anything is corrupted.    It's a HP Laptop 17-by0xxx

Hi! @DeeDoubleU,

Thanks for the update.

Did you try the steps recommended in my previous post to isolate the issue?

If you hibernate the PC. The applications you had left off before hibernation would still remain intact and restores after you turn on the PC.

However, if you shut down the PC all the applications you were running on the PC would close and when you turn on the PC you will have to manually restore the applications again.

I'll watch your response!

Take Care!

Such issues in unexpected and very often it occurs when browser could be closed accidentally because of some problems. In other words, when Chrome crashes, all tabs will be probably closed and will not reopen when you run Chrome the next time.

In this case, it is important to know how to restart the tabs. You can use some ways but I prefer to restore tabs through history where you can find all tabs that you have opened and see the latest sessions. If you would like to know more ways you can visit this link rocketfiles.com to get more information.
