Microsoft Windows 11

My HP starts with the HP screen, screen never opens win 11.  This started 4 days ago.  The system test shows all parts “passed” however win does not start.  Several technicians have worked on it (amounts to about 10 hours) and a Win 11 boot USB will not install.  Any help???

@TnPD, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you've been troubleshooting the issue for a while, and it can be really frustrating when things don't work as expected. Since you’ve already run a system diagnostic and have been working with technicians, but still can’t get Windows 11 to boot, I’d recommend a few steps to narrow down the problem further:

Check for BIOS/UEFI Issues

Access BIOS/UEFI Settings: Restart the laptop and press the ESC key to enter the BIOS settings.

Try resetting the BIOS settings to their defaults and see if that helps.

Hard Drive Detection

Even though the hardware test passes, it’s still possible that Windows is unable to detect or boot from the hard drive.

Check if the Drive is Detected in BIOS: Inside the BIOS/UEFI, check if the system detects your storage drive (SSD or HDD). If it’s not showing up, this could indicate a connection issue or failure of the storage device itself.

Repair Windows 11 Installation (Using Bootable USB)

If a Windows 11 boot USB isn’t installing, it could be related to the installation media, settings, or how the boot process is handled. Here’s what you can try:

Recreate Windows 11 Boot USB: If the USB stick you’re using for installation might have an issue, try creating a fresh bootable USB using the official Media Creation Tool from Microsoft here.

Boot into Recovery Mode: Instead of trying a fresh install immediately, see if you can enter Advanced Startup options. On boot, press F11 or Shift + F10 to access Windows recovery options. You can attempt to repair the current installation by selecting Repair Your Computer > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.

Check Boot Mode: Ensure that your system is attempting to boot in the correct mode (UEFI vs. Legacy). Sometimes, an improper setting here can prevent installation.

Use System Restore or Reset (if Possible)

System Restore: Under the Advanced Options section in the recovery menu, you should find the option to System Restore. This would restore Windows 11 to an earlier working state without losing your files.

Reset Windows 11: If System Restore doesn’t help, the option to Reset this PC (while keeping personal files) may be available as well.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
