HP Envy 15-j142na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My computer suddenly showed and error screen with a qr code but by the time I got my phone the laptop had switched off.

now when i boot, it just remains a black screen. The Caps-Lock is blinking twice then pausing. I looked that up and after doing a hard reset and still having the issue the support stated to hold windows key & B and then press power button for 1 second and release button and keys.

I've done this several times but no joy. Any help?

Hello @hardyrexion

Thank you for posting back in the HP Support forum.

Based on the official HP artcile >here< , this pattern of blinking (the way it blinks) indicates BIOS issue and is similar to the problem you had before back in December >> https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Won-t-boot-after-BIOS-flash/m-p/5914810#M1037...

Resolution should be the very same you did the previous time - restore the BIOS using USB drive >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3932413-2337994-16

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

Didn't think of that as the circumstances were totally different. This time I was simply transferring a file over the network and the pc crashed and wouldn't restart, last time I was trying to update the BIOS.

Again, thanks. Seems my BIOS is temperamental. I've saved the USB stick with the files and keeping it with the Laptop.
