Hello. A long time ago one of my fans stopped working, and after replacing it, in every startup I get a black screen telling me I have the fan issue 90B. I understand it and I press ENTER to keep using my laptop but im sick of it. I already have a new fan in (although it isnt the same one because i couldnt find it), a cooling laptop holder AND a fan pointed at my setup so my laptop doesnt overheat. I just wish to stop my laptop from telling me I have the 90B issue everytime, because if i dont press ENTER it turns off again. Ive tried finding something about it in my boot menu, but no luck.

Hi @ramu09

There's no way to prevent that error; if you use a fan that isn't compatible with the model, you'll continue to get that error.

Hi,

I understand that the warning is annoying, but I would not recommend trying to bypass or suppress the System Fan 90B message. HP shows this warning because the BIOS is detecting that a cooling fan is not working correctly during startup.

HP’s official document for 90B fan errors explains that the system may show this message when a cooling fan is not operating correctly:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_6901028-6901145-16

An external cooling pad or another fan pointed at the laptop can help temperatures, but it will not clear the 90B warning. The BIOS is checking the internal fan signal/RPM, not only the laptop temperature.

Since you replaced the fan with a different model, the most likely causes are:

  1. The replacement fan is not the correct HP spare part for your exact laptop model.
  2. The fan connector is not fully seated.
  3. The fan has a different pinout/RPM signal than the original fan.
  4. Dust or cable routing is blocking the fan.
  5. The motherboard fan control/RPM sensor circuit has a problem.

I would suggest:

  • Check the exact HP model/product number.
  • Find the correct HP spare fan part number from the Maintenance and Service Guide for that model.
  • Replace the fan with the correct compatible part.
  • Clean the heatsink and vents.
  • Make sure the fan cable is fully connected and not damaged.
  • Update the BIOS only after confirming the fan is installed correctly.

If the correct fan is installed and the 90B warning still appears, then the issue may be with the fan connector or motherboard fan-sensing circuit.

In short, this warning should not be disabled. It should be fixed by installing the correct internal fan or repairing the fan detection path.
