Pavillion dm4 2300
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My Pavillion does not boot and show this message in a black screen

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred."

I've tried System Recovery and Startup Repair from my Windows 7 installation disk with no result. From the MS-DOS Console i could access to the HDD and made a copy of the data to an external HDD. I could browse all the directories and partitions in the internal HDD, so it works.

I've tried to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium, but in the first reboot i found the same error message.

Running the HP PV Hardware Diagnostics UEFI at startup I received the following:

Failure ID: GU1KLX-5N482U-XD6V5G-60VX03
Product ID: LS756EA#ABE

Could you help me?

Thank you

Hi @RafaRamos,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I read your post and wanted to reach out to help you!  In your post, you had said that currently your HP Pavilion dm4-2030e Notebook with the error message GU1KLX-5N482U-XD6V5G-60VX03. This error is Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure. What that means is your Hard drive could be failing.

I recommend  the first thing you should do is back-up all your personal files etc as soon as you can.

Try performing a hard reset.

When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.

Here is a Video that might help. It shows you how to reseat the HDD, which sometimes helps.

Please get back to me how this goes.

Thanks for your support MrsTenter,

I've made a back-up of my files from the MSDOS Console to a external Hard Disk. There was no problem accessing to all the partitions in the internal HDD.

I've done a hard reset, tried to made a System Repair from my Windows installation CD and tried to reinstall Windows, without result.

I was thinking in use KillDisk and then reinstall windows, but right now i'm using a Mac and cannot install it here to prepare the bootable disk.

What do you think about this possibility?

Regards

Dear MrsTenter,

Finally I've format not only c: but as well the partition called SYSTEM using "Drive Options" from the Windows advanced installation and I could complete the installation.

Now I have to reinstall all the drivers, but the PC is working now.

Thank you very much
