One morning recently I came back to my laptop which had been open but sleeping overnight, but the screen was lit with a blue screen error message saying something about no boot drive found. The device was very hot. I shut it down, let it completely cool off and booted it up. Before loading windows it gave me another blue screen message about cooling fan malfunction, do you want to continue. I clicked continue and it booted into windows fine. everything behaved fine, no date corruption or any other signs of trouble. but...
Since then it sometimes will work totally fine for hours, but it also sometimes locking up before crashing a minute later, I occasionally get the "no HD found" message, and less frequently get the cooling fan malfunction message. Every time it crashes, or whatever the error message, I can always boot up windows after 1 or 2 tries.
I should add.... I can hear the cooling fan operating and the only time it gets excessively hot is if I have left it and come back later to find a blue screen. So I'm now shutting it down every time I leave it. Sleep mode does not prevent the crashes apparently.
What in the world is happening here? Any help is appreciated!
