Pavilion g6-2301AX
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

My HP Pavilion G6-2301AX recently had a hard drive failiure. Since I had no recovery media to restore Windows 8 on my new hard drive, I purchased a recovery DVD set from HP. When I started with the process of recovery, an error just showed up stating as below,

"Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer restart the installation"

And when I press the OK button below the error message, system just restarts and encounter the same error again. So Installation process has stuck in this restart loop and unable to proceed to the next step.

Following is my notebook details,

Model: HP Pavilion G6-2301AX

Operating System: Windows 8 Single Language - 64 bit

Please help me to complete the installation. Thanks .

Hi! @Midhun362, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I understand your PC keeps restarting randomly.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any hardware or software changes on your PC?

Have you tried charging your PC with a different adapter?

Does your PC restart in BIOS?

Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.

As you mentioned your PC keeps restarting randomly when you are running a recovery using the recovery media.

If the PC is not restarting in BIOS try the steps recommended below.

Try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Try running a system diagnostics test on your PC and check if the hardware on your laptop is functioning correctly.

Refer this article to know more information about running system diagnostics on your PC.

If the system diagnostics test completes without any errors. It is an issue with the recovery media. Please contact HP support and get a replacement recovery media.

Also, Try updating the BIOS and other drivers on your PC using HP support assistant and check if it helps.

If the solution provided worked for you, please mark accepted solution for this post.

Hi MrRobot, Thank you for responding to my query. Following are my answers to your questions.

1.Did you make any hardware or software changes on your PC?

Ans: Replaced the hard drive with the same model HDD came with the notebook (Hitachi Travelstar 5400 rpm).

2.Have you tried charging your PC with a different adapter?

Ans: Never.

3. Does your PC restart in BIOS?

Ans: No.

Product Number: C9M34PA

serial Number: 5CD249736T

I have already tried restoring the BIOS but it doesn't help. Also tried running a system diagnostics test and no errors were found. There is no operating system on the notebook right now, so BIOS and driver upadate cannot be executed. Regarding the recovery media I am having is a newly purchased set of DVDs from HP.

Please check out the below given link which is about the same issue on windows 7 that I am facing on windows 8.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Hi

Try

ISO images of various Microsoft OS's are available. They can be be downloaded (sometimes you need a licence key other than the HP OEM key) and 'burnt' to a DVD or USB. They will NOT contain the appropriate HP software, like drivers etc, but will enable a repair to be started

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

For when you only have Linux etc (non MS OS) to create install media.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

It is a Lo-Cost/No-Cost alternative.

If in doubt please ask.

Thank you for your reply CLINT_FLICK

Since I do not have an operating system installed on the hard drive of my laptop, What is the point of starting an operating system repair? I am already having the recovery disks of windows 8 which was pre-installed OS on my laptop.
