Stuck on undoing changes made to your computer

My laptop was updating and I forgot to switch the charger on so the battery must have died overnight. 

I’ve now tried switching it on and I just get stuck at ‘Undoing changes made to your computer’ screen. I’ve looked online and everywhere says press F11 to do some sort of recovery. I’ve tried this and it does nothing, just stays on the same screen. 

Tried the virtual assistant which was useless and just sent me round in circles. It’s told me to do a ‘Power Reset’ but I don’t know whether that will delete all my photos and documents? As you may be able to tell I’m not the most technically minded so any help would be greatly appreciated.

This message nearly always means that Windows Update has failed and that leaves your PC in a corrupted state -- which probably happened because the battery dropped too low.  You should ALWAYS have the laptop plugged into the charger when you do Windows Updates -- for this reason.

First thing you need to do is see if you can restart in Safe mode -- by doing these steps: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2304-boot-into-safe-mode-windows-10-a.html

Then, follow these steps to reset Windows Update: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/24742-reset-windows-update-windows-10-a.html

If these work, when you finally reboot, you should then be able to login to a working Windows desktop.

If these do not work, then you will be faced with a complete reinstall of Windows and that will erase the files you failed to backup to external media for saving.  You then would need to reply to this thread and I'll post instructions on steps you can follow to do data recovery.
