Hello, so yesterday my laptop was flickering black screen for a split second and then threw me back to the lock screen, this happened 2 times only. And then today when I was playing the game as usual which made my fan go fast, I kept getting the same black screen flicker and then got to lock screen for so many times in a row. So I decided to clean the dust off my Victus 16 laptop's backside as this proved to help stop the flickering that happened several months ago, after cleaning the dust I noticed that the power button indicator didn't show anything when I pressed it, so I tried to connect it to an external monitor which shows something. So currently my laptop screen, keyboard, and touchpad are not working. I'm using an external monitor and also an external mouse and keyboard for now.
I've tried many things, uninstalling and reupdate many drivers, reinstalling Windows repair version, and also tried system restore (back when my laptop screen still could show something, before the dust cleaning). I read many forums online and wanted to try startup repair and etc but unfortunately currently my laptop screen is blank so I couldn't see anything when I'm in recovery option

Hi @Joelie1
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing a frustrating situation with your Victus 16. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue further:
1. Power Cycle the Laptop
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery (if removed) and the power adapter, then try turning it on again.
2. Check the Display Connection
- Since your external monitor works, it may indicate a problem with the laptop's display connection. Sometimes, a loose cable can cause the screen to stop functioning.
- If you’re comfortable, you can carefully open the laptop to check the display cable connection to the motherboard.
3. Safe Mode
- If you can manage to get your laptop to show something on the external monitor, try booting into Safe Mode. You can usually do this by pressing F8 or Shift + F8 during startup, but since your internal screen is blank, this might be tricky.
- If you can access it through the external monitor, it might allow you to troubleshoot drivers or settings further.
4. Reset BIOS/UEFI Settings
- You can reset the BIOS settings by entering the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, Del, or a similar key at startup). Look for an option to reset to defaults.
- If you can get into the BIOS via the external monitor, check to ensure the internal display is recognized.
5. Hardware Diagnostics
- Many laptops have built-in hardware diagnostics. If you can access these via the external monitor, run them to check for any hardware issues.
6. Consider Professional Help
- If none of the above steps work, it may be worth taking your laptop to a certified technician. The issue could be hardware-related, such as a failing display or GPU.
7. Use Recovery Options
- If you can get your laptop to recognize the external monitor, you might be able to access Windows Recovery Options and try startup repair or system restore from there.
8. Reinstalling Windows
- As a last resort, if you can access the recovery options through the external monitor, you might consider performing a clean installation of Windows.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Small updates : for the past 2 hours I have been trying to fix this. My laptop screen once in a while does get detected and it makes it automatically goes to "Extend" mode. But just after a second, it goes blank again and throws me to the lock screen, the frequency of it is now more often as I'm writing this update

Hi, @Rachel571 I forgot about this forum here, totally sorry. I managed to fix the problem by updating the BIOS from the HP support itself when I reached them on WhatsApp. Since you mentioned BIOS / UEFI settings I will mark your answer as a solution, I am so grateful you spent some of your time to help my case. Thank you
