Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello HP Support,

I am experiencing a problem with my HP laptop running Windows 10.

Before the problem occurred, my laptop was running extremely slowly. I shut it down, and when I turned it on again, I received the "Boot Device Not Found (3F0)" error message.

I tried to troubleshoot the problem using HP Startup Menu and HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, but I encountered another issue:

The Esc key works during startup and allows me to open the HP Startup Menu.

Once the menu appears, the keyboard stops responding, and I cannot navigate through the options using the arrow keys or Enter.

I can use the mouse in the blue HP Startup Menu, but the mouse pointer does not appear in the hardware diagnostics menu.

I have been unable to run the hard drive test because I cannot navigate through the diagnostics menu.

I would appreciate your assistance in identifying the cause of these problems and finding a solution.

Could this be related to the BIOS, the keyboard, the hard drive, or another hardware issue?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards.

Hi @HishamElmaalul,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for explaining the issue in detail. The combination of the Boot Device Not Found (3F0) error and the keyboard becoming unresponsive in the Startup Menu makes it important to check both storage detection and input functionality before deciding which component may be faulty.

Let's try a few checks:

1. Check whether the keyboard works in BIOS.

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Turn it on and repeatedly press Esc to open the Startup Menu.
  • Press F10 to enter BIOS setup, if the keyboard responds.
  • Check whether the arrow keys work in BIOS.

2. Try an external USB keyboard
Connect a wired USB keyboard and check whether its arrow keys and Enter key work in the Startup Menu or BIOS.

This will help determine whether the issue is limited to the built-in keyboard.

3. Check storage detection
The 3F0 error indicates that the system cannot find a bootable device. If you can enter BIOS using the keyboard, check whether the SSD or hard drive is listed under System Information or Storage.

If the keyboard remains unresponsive in BIOS and the internal drive is not detected, further hardware assessment may be necessary. Since you mentioned that Windows had become extremely slow before the error appeared, please avoid reinstalling Windows or formatting the drive until your important files have been considered for recovery.

You can also refer to HP's official Boot Device Not Found (3F0) troubleshooting guide.

Could you please confirm these two details?

What is your exact HP laptop model?

Does a wired USB keyboard work in BIOS or the startup menu?

These details will help us narrow down the cause and identify the next appropriate step.

Best regards,
