Is it possible to change my laptop from MBR to UEFI?  If so, would I need new hardware or is it a selectable choice somewhere in setup?

Regards,

Chuck Billow

No. You cannot "switch" to UEFI. Your notebook's BIOS will only recognize a hard disk or SSD with an MBR volume.

It will not recognize a hard disk or SSD with a GPT volume.

The GPT volume is part and parcel of the UEFI standard used in newer notebooks.

Your notebook is  older hardware  and cannot be changed.

If you want to use UEFI you will need a new notebook.
