Hi,
Post back with the following.
1. Did the code from my previous podt bypass the power on password Ok?
2. Had a power on password been previously set, or did this just suddenly appear?

Hi,
A common cause of a power on password just suddenly appearing would be a failing HDD, so see if you can run some diagnostics on it as follows.
Shutdown the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu. Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive.
Post back with the results, including any error codes that may be generated.
Regards,

Hi,
The 24 character code is a failure of the Optimised Disk Self Test ( basically, it can't read some areas of the drive occupied by the operating system ) - it would indicate that the drive is failing and should be replaced and is also consistent with your description of the issue.
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 54 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery Media to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - this procedure is detailed Here.
If you don't have Recovery Media, it can still be ordered from HP starting here or from the 3rd party re-seller on the link below.
