I can not set the system boot from the M2 drive. I have to boot the system through Boot Device Options. By default, the system boots from SATA.

It turned out to make a download from M2. Deleted all SATA disk partitions and created one new one. Thanks for the help.

Hi @Roman1990,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To set the system to boot from the M.2 drive, you will need to access the BIOS/UEFI settings of your computer. The steps to access the BIOS/UEFI settings can vary depending on the manufacturer and model of your motherboard, but generally, you can access the settings by pressing a key during startup.

Here are the general steps to access the BIOS/UEFI settings.

  1. Turn on or restart your computer.
  2. Press the key to access the BIOS/UEFI settings. This key can vary depending on your motherboard manufacturer and model. Common keys include F2, F10, Del, or Esc. If you're not sure which key to press, consult the documentation that came with your motherboard or computer.
  3. Once you're in the BIOS/UEFI settings, look for the "Boot" or "Boot Order" option. This is usually located in the "Advanced" or "Boot" tab of the BIOS/UEFI settings.
  4. In the "Boot" or "Boot Order" option, look for the option to change the boot order. This will allow you to prioritize the M.2 drive over the SATA drive.
  5. Save your changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI settings. This will restart your computer and the system should now boot from the M.2 drive by default.

If you are unable to find the option to change the boot order or the M.2 drive is not listed in the boot order, it's possible that your computer's BIOS/UEFI does not support booting from M.2 drives.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have to manually select a boot before turning on the laptop via the BOOT Device Options call.

@Roman1990,

Apparently, HP laptops are preconfigured to boot from a 2.5" hdd/sdd first if it is present. Remove the sata drive physically and see if the laptop boots from the M.2 ssd. If this doesn't work, there's another option to try. So, let me know how it goes.

HP Recommended

When I remove SATA. Loading goes with M2. It is necessary that the download starts from M2 when SATA is installed.

HP Recommended

Not sure if I understand you correctly. Do you want the laptop to be dual-booted from M.2 ssd and 2.5" sata? Or you just want to use the sata as a data drive? If the latter, you can reconnect the sata back and confirm it still boots from the M.2 and then reformat the sata.

HP Recommended

I want to boot Windows from M2 and use SATA as data drive. I already pulled and formatted SATA, but the download is still from SATA. Sorry for my English.

HP Recommended

what do you mean by " the download is still from SATA?"  You reformatted the sata so there's no OS on it. Do you mean that the system doesn't boot from the M.2 and some error messages appear on the screen or just the black screen?

HP Recommended

Yes, Windows won't boot from M2. A message appears asking you to install Windows. SATA drive is fully formatted. Windows is on M2.

Let me confirm where you stand:

1. The system boots from the M.2 ssd if the sata drive is NOT connected.

2. The system doesn't boot from the M.2 if the sata is connected, even though it is fully formatted with no OS on it. A "boot device not found" error appears on the screen.

3. PCIe/M.2 Boot option is still ticked in Boot Options in bios. Also, PCIe/M.2 SSD is on the top of the list of the Boot Order in  bios.

Please confirm or correct if I'm wrong.
