@Vidhu1,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check BIOS Settings

Sometimes, the issue may be due to incorrect BIOS settings.

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Power it back on and immediately press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS menu.
  • Once in the BIOS, go to the System Configuration or Boot Options section.
  • Ensure that the hard drive is listed as the first boot device.
    • You might also see an option to reset the BIOS settings to default. If so, you can try resetting to default to see if that resolves the problem.
  • Save the changes and exit BIOS by pressing F10 and selecting "Yes" to confirm.

Check the Hard Drive Connection

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the power supply and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Open the back panel (you may need a screwdriver) to access the hard drive.
  • Check the hard drive connection to ensure it is properly seated. If it’s loose, reconnect it carefully.
  • Reassemble the laptop, reattach the battery, and power it on again.

Perform a Hard Reset

Performing a hard reset can help to clear out any issues with the device.

  • Turn off your laptop and disconnect any peripherals (like USB devices).
  • Remove the battery (if removable) and unplug the laptop from any power source.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the laptop back into the power supply.
  • Turn on the laptop and check if the issue persists.

Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics

You can run HP's built-in hardware diagnostics to check the status of your storage devices and other components.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it on again and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Select F2 for System Diagnostics.
  • Choose the Hard Drive Check option and run the test. If there are issues detected with the hard drive, you may need to replace it.

Check for Loose or Faulty Cables

  • Sometimes a loose or damaged cable can cause issues. Check the SATA cable connecting your hard drive to the motherboard. If possible, replace the cable to rule out this as a possible cause.

Perform a System Restore or Recovery

If your hard drive is detected but you still see the error 3FO, you might need to perform a system recovery.

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Turn it back on and immediately press F11 to access the HP Recovery Manager.
  • You can choose to perform a System Restore to a previous working state or System Recovery to reset the laptop and restore factory settings (make sure your data is backed up, if possible).

Reinstall the Operating System (if necessary)

If the above steps don’t work and the hard drive is not faulty, you may need to reinstall the operating system.

  • You can use a Windows recovery USB drive or Windows installation media to reinstall the OS.

You can also refer this helpful guide for troubleshooting the "3FO error: boot device not found".

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
