Microsoft Windows 11

Hi! Thank you for your response about clearing pending image!

My laptop flickered and has a black screen. As the flickers a message appears that says the following:

"The system BIOS pending image is being cleared.

Do not shutdown or remove power from your computer during the clear.

The clear will take a few minutes to complete.  Then  your instructed to go to : www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

Clearing pending images.

Help me to resolve this issue. I have tried but, doesn't seem to help relieve the problem.

Thank you!

Hi @Jdiamond1

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue with your HP 14-dq0000 PC stuck on the message:

"The System BIOS Pending Image is being cleared..."

This typically occurs when a BIOS update was interrupted or failed during verification. If the system has been stuck for more than 30–60 minutes, follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Recovery Process

1. Disconnect All Peripherals

  • Unplug the AC adapter.
  • Remove all USB devices, external monitors, and peripherals.
  • If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out. (Skip this if the battery is internal.)

2. Force Shutdown and Reset

  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to force a shutdown.
  • Wait for 30 seconds.
  • Plug the AC adapter back in (leave USB devices disconnected).

3. Initiate BIOS Recovery

  • With the laptop powered off, press and hold the Windows key + B.
  • While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the Power button but keep holding Windows + B for another 10 seconds.
  • If successful, the system should enter BIOS recovery mode and attempt to restore the BIOS.

4. Let the Recovery Complete

  • If the BIOS recovery screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Do not interrupt the process.
