Hi @UpeaceIT,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error you're experiencing, indicated by the white caps lock light blinking (5 slow and 3 fast blinks), refers to an embedded controller (EC) timeout waiting for the BIOS on your HP laptop. This is often due to a problem with the firmware, hardware, or motherboard components. Here's how you can troubleshoot.

Hard Reset the Laptop

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the power cord and remove the battery (if removable).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord and battery, then turn it on.

Perform a BIOS Recovery

HP laptops support BIOS recovery to address firmware issues:

  1. Turn off the laptop completely.
  2. Connect it to power.
  3. Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press the Power button while holding those keys.
  4. Release the Power button after 2–3 seconds, but continue holding the Windows + B keys for 15–20 seconds.
  5. If successful, the BIOS recovery screen will appear. Follow the on-screen instructions to recover the BIOS.

Reset Memory Modules

A loose or malfunctioning RAM module can cause this issue:

  1. Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power.
  2. Remove the back cover to access the memory modules.
  3. Remove the RAM sticks, clean the contacts, and reseat them properly.
  4. Reassemble and turn on the laptop.

Update or Reinstall the BIOS

If the laptop powers on after the above steps:

  • Visit the HP Support website on another device and download the latest BIOS for your laptop model.
  • Install it using a USB drive or follow HP's instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
