Hi,
Since the laptop is only about two weeks old, I would not ignore this issue if it continues to happen.
If the Fn key light does not turn on immediately during the slow-boot cases, the delay may be happening very early in the startup process, before Windows fully loads. This can point to BIOS/firmware, power-state initialization, Modern Standby/hibernate behavior, or hardware initialization, not just normal Windows slowness.
Please try the following:
- Back up your important files first.
- Install all HP updates for your exact model:
HP OmniBook X Flip 16-ar0000 / AK4S0AV
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
Install the latest available:
- BIOS/firmware
- Chipset/platform drivers
- Graphics driver
- Power management-related updates
- All HP recommended updates
- Run Windows Update and also check Optional updates.
- Temporarily disable Fast Startup and test again:
- Open Control Panel
- Go to Power Options
- Select Choose what the power buttons do
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup
- Save changes
- Shut down fully and test several cold boots
- Run HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI:
- Turn off the laptop
- Power on and press Esc repeatedly
- Press F2
- Run the System Extensive Test
- Run Memory and Storage tests
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/hp-pc-hardware-diagnostics
- Try to identify when the slow boot happens:
- After normal shutdown
- After restart
- After sleep
- After hibernate
- After closing and reopening the lid
- While connected to the charger
- While running on battery only
This detail is important because a slow boot after sleep/hibernate can have a different cause than a slow boot after a full shutdown.
- Check Windows Reliability Monitor:
- Search for Reliability Monitor
- Open View reliability history
- Check for critical errors around the time the slow boot happened
If diagnostics pass and the issue disappears after BIOS/driver updates and disabling Fast Startup, it was likely firmware or power-state related.
However, if the slow boot continues randomly on a laptop that is only two weeks old, I would contact HP Support and request warranty review. Provide them with:
- Exact product number
- BIOS version
- Windows version
- A short video showing the delayed startup and Fn key light behavior
- HP Diagnostics results
Because the device is almost new, HP Support should review it under warranty if the issue continues.
Regards,
Haytham
