Hi @Mehar504

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your laptop is struggling to complete its startup sequence—especially if the power button lights up briefly but the system doesn’t boot. Let’s walk through a few steps to help revive it.

When a laptop shows signs of life but doesn’t fully turn on, it often points to a power delivery, memory, or BIOS-related issue. Since you mentioned a previous “boost” issue (likely referring to boot or POST), here’s what you can try:

Step-by-step recovery guide

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove any connected peripherals (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
  • If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual charge.
  • Reconnect only the power adapter (leave the battery out if removable) and try powering on.

Check for Display Output

  • Shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen while pressing the power button. If you see faint images, the backlight may have failed.
  • Try connecting to an external monitor via HDMI or VGA to check if the system is booting but the internal display isn’t working.

Reseat or Replace RAM

  • If you're comfortable opening the laptop, remove and reseat the RAM modules. A loose or faulty RAM stick can prevent booting.
  • If you have multiple RAM sticks, try booting with one at a time.

Clear CMOS (if accessible)

  • Some laptops have a pinhole reset or CMOS battery that can be disconnected briefly to reset BIOS settings. This can help if the system is stuck due to firmware misconfiguration.

Use HP’s Official Recovery Guide

  • Visit HP’s startup troubleshooting page: HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start
  • This guide includes visuals and steps for diagnosing power and boot issues, including LED blink codes and BIOS recovery options.

If the power button cycles on and off

That behavior may indicate a failed POST (Power-On Self-Test). If the laptop briefly powers on and then shuts off repeatedly:

  • Disconnect all external devices.
  • Try booting with minimal hardware (RAM only).
  • Listen for beep codes or check LED blink patterns—these can help identify the failing component.

If the issue persists after these steps, the problem may lie with the motherboard, power circuit, or BIOS corruption. You can explore BIOS recovery options from HP’s guide above, or use the HP App on another device to run diagnostics and access support tools.

Let me know how far you get with these steps—I’ll guide you through the next phase if needed.
