Hi @SlidingScale,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to experience these issues with your new HP Pavilion Aero. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot.
- Restart the Laptop: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.
- Check for Updates: Ensure Windows and all drivers are up to date. Sometimes updates can fix performance and compatibility issues.
- Disable Startup Programs: Too many programs launching at startup can slow down boot times. You can manage startup programs in Task Manager.
- Run System Maintenance: Use built-in Windows tools like Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize your system.
- Update BIOS and Drivers: Visit HP's support website and ensure your BIOS and all drivers (especially chipset and fingerprint scanner drivers) are updated to the latest versions.
- Check for Malware: Run a full system scan using Windows Security or another trusted antivirus software to rule out malware.
- Disable Fast Startup: Sometimes disabling Fast Startup in Windows settings can improve boot times.
- Reset Fingerprint Settings: In Windows Settings, go to Accounts > Sign-in options and remove and reconfigure your fingerprint.
- Perform a System Restore: If the issues started recently, consider using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when it was functioning correctly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
