Linux

Today i booted into my windows partition on my SSD to update to BIOS version f.45 Rev. A from f.42 Rev. A. When performing the update i noticed that when the utility is copying the update files the logo is now AMI instead of American Megatrends (i am awareits the same company). When booting without the m.2 (sata) ssd installed and no bios recovery usb drive i get the 2 long 2 short caps lock flash of the DXE area of the BIOS being corrupt. When i boot with the SSD installed (and no usb drive) it attempts to perform a BIOS recovery, it writes surprisingly quick and then verifies 3 times apparently and then fails to verify, reboots and performs the whole process in a loop. When using the previous version BIOS on a usb stick i get a `Failed to load bios signature file` (or something along those lines) and then the machine reboots. I have also tried the previous version to f.42 it also has the same issue, sometimes i also just get the same 2 long 2 short caps lock light flash. I do use linux on this machine as my primary OS but i do dual boot with windows so i can run some windows applications if i need and to perform bios updates on the machine, this shouldnt affect the bios update though. If anyone can shed some light onto a possible solution to this please let me know.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

We do not support Linux or dual boot. However, let's perform a BIOS recovery: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02693833

Let me know if this helps.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the "Accept as solution" button, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Thanks!

Have a great day!

I have the same issue, didn't had the time to call HP yet.

I don't get why this BIOS version in still online... Anyway, did you have any progress in resolving this issue?

As my machine was still in warranty I was able to take it to the Curry's store i bought the machine from and (although it took quite a while) they performed a motherboard replacement and even successfully was able to upgrade to the f.45 BIOS too.

My issue has got nothing to do with linux or dual booting, I performed the update from Windows, I believe I mentioned I tried performing recovery with many different versions with either the caps lock light flashing 2.2 (DXE area of the bios is corrupt and no recovery binary image is available) or it displays on the display "failed to read bios signature file". I have since been able to get a motherboard replacement under warranty.

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggets you contact our phone support and check for the support option. They will help you.

Or you can contact the local service center for repair.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.

1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

We are experiencing longer than expected wait times to reach an agent due to the CoViD-19 impact and there might have been issues in you getting the expected resolution on the issue.

Have a nice day!!
