ProBook 440 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

System runs extremely slow (click and wait 15 - 30 seconds before system responds).

This is a ProBook 440 G3 (was new in 2016).

I found a lot of threads about defective AC adapters where the system runs fine on battery, but runs poorly on AC power (these threads are several years old, some over 10 years old).

So, the question is:

Has anybody had this problem (or similar problem) with AC adapters for newer hp laptops - particularly this model?

Thanks

@hsdale3

Since your laptop is over two years old, with very sluggish performance, especially a long initial delay, I would most suspect a failing drive.

If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

Please report back the results.

WA,

Thank you for your response.

In my haste, I failed to mention steps I have taken to resolve the trouble.

I have done the following to resolve the issue:

- I replaced the hard drive with no change in symptoms

- I replaced the RAM memory with no change

- The battery is bad (it shows to be charging, but stays at 0%.  After being plugged in over-night, as soon as the AC adapter is unplugged from the laptop, it powers off).

- I previously updated the BIOS (with no change)

- I re-flashed the BIOS again and it seems to have helped (fingers crossed)

- Used a different AC adapter (three different ones - not sure if it is the BIOS re-flash, or 3rd AC adapter that "seems" to have resolved the problem).

I have ordered a replacement battery, should be here 02/07/19.

I am now using the laptop to see if it is working properly ("normal speed/response time"), and will the improvement last.

Thanks again,

Howard
