Hi!

My original battery stopped charging and the laptop shuts off when the power cord is removed.  I replaced the battery and am still getting the same issue.  Ran battery diagnostic and it states the same error on the new battery as the original battery (The battery is reporting a failure and needs to be replaced as soon as possible).  I tried to remove the cord and hold down the power button for 25 seconds as recommended by HP Support, but still nothing.  Is it a deeper HW issue?  Please help. Thx!

Hi @MoMosMa11

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details. I understand that your Victus laptop powers off when the adapter is removed, and even after replacing the battery, the HP App diagnostics continue to report a failure.

Let’s go through the steps to narrow this down further.

Confirm BIOS and Drivers are Updated

  • Open the HP App and check for updates.
  • Ensure the BIOS is updated to the latest version available for your Victus model.
  • Update chipset and power management drivers from HP Support.

Run HP App Battery Test Again

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select Troubleshooting > Power and Battery.
  • Run the battery diagnostic and note the Failure ID.
  • This code helps identify whether the issue is with the battery or the system board.

Check Battery Connection

  • Power off the laptop and disconnect the adapter.
  • If comfortable, reseat the battery following the steps in the Maintenance and Service Guide for your exact model.
  • Ensure the battery connector is firmly attached to the system board.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the adapter.
  • Hold the power button for 25 seconds.
  • Reconnect the adapter and power on the laptop.
  • Then test again with the battery installed.

System Board Consideration

  • If both the original and replacement batteries show the same failure in diagnostics, and the laptop shuts down immediately when the adapter is removed, this points to a possible system board issue rather than the battery itself.
  • The diagnostic Failure ID will confirm this.

For your reference, here is the official HP guide to battery testing and diagnostics:
HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery

Could you please share the Failure ID shown in the HP App battery test? That will help us determine whether the replacement battery is being misread or if the system board needs attention.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
