Hi! I've been having an issue with my sound button ever since I got my laptop around 6 months ago, so I was wondering if someone could help me? When I press either of the volume buttons it makes no difference, only when i adjust the volume on the actual video- it's really annoying! Thank you 🙂

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Pavillion X360 series laptop. I read that the sound button on the laptop is not working. Secondly, the audio is not good when you try to increase the volume using the software. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Please let me know the exact laptop model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • What version of Windows operating system are you using?
  • Have you checked the audio using headphones or by connecting external speakers to the laptop?

Meanwhile, please run a  hardware test on the audio The following steps should help:

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.

  • The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.

  • Select component tests.

List of the Component tests

  • Please initiate a test on the Audio - The Audio Playback Test checks your system to make sure the audio device is functioning properly. During the test, a few music notes are played in sequence and then repeated. This test takes 1 minute to complete. Click Audio, then click Run once. Choose either the speakers or the headphones. When asked, enter the number of notes you heard.

Please let me know the results of this test and I will be glad to assist you further. Cheers!
