Hi @JB1979,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

1. Change Boot Mode to UEFI:

  • Restart the notebook and enter BIOS Setup by pressing F10 while the F10 = ROM Based Setup message is displayed on the screen.
  • Navigate to the Boot Options menu and change the boot mode back to UEFI.
  • Save your changes and exit BIOS. Restart the computer to see if it resolves the issue.

2. Reset BIOS to Default Settings:

  • Restart the notebook and press F10 to go to BIOS Setup.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the File > Restore Defaults option.
  • Confirm the restoration by pressing F10 again.
  • Select File > Save Changes and Exit, then follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Check Boot Order:

  • Enter BIOS Setup by pressing F10 during startup.
  • Navigate to the Boot Order menu.
  • Ensure that the correct boot device (typically your hard drive or SSD where Windows is installed) is set as the first boot option.
  • Save any changes and exit BIOS.

4. Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Turn on your notebook and repeatedly press the F2 key to access HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Quick Test followed by the Extensive Test to check for any hardware issues. If the tests report any issues, follow the given recommendations.

5. Boot From Recovery Media:

  • If you have previously created a Windows Recovery USB/CD, use it to boot your notebook.
  • Insert the recovery media into your notebook and restart it.
  • Access BIOS Setup by pressing F10 and set the recovery media as the primary boot device.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to repair your Windows installation.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.
