My device HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV), Product 366B5EA, Serial Edited, is not able to shut down and keep in that state, as it restarts. Only happens in W11, in W10 it is OK.

@MO3112, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The issue you're experiencing with your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 could potentially be linked to how Windows 11 manages shutdown sequences. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Update BIOS: Make sure the BIOS of your laptop is updated to the latest version. This can often resolve compatibility issues with operating systems. You can download the latest BIOS update for your model from HP's official drivers and software page.

Power Settings: Check your power settings in Windows to ensure that there aren't any settings that could be causing your computer to restart automatically. Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings > Choose what the power buttons do, and then ensure that the settings match your preferences for shutdown.

Fast Startup: Disable the Fast Startup feature in Windows 11 as it can sometimes cause issues with shutdown processes. To do this, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do. Here, click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable" and uncheck "Turn on fast startup".

Check for Updates: Ensure your Windows 11 installation is up-to-date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and download any available updates.

Driver Updates: Make sure all your drivers, especially for the chipset and power management, are updated. You might want to manually download and install the latest drivers from the HP support site.

Troubleshoot Hardware: Run the Windows built-in hardware troubleshooter to check for any hardware-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you very much for the time you dedicated to my problem. I found the following:

- When switching off, If I have external monitor connected to HDMI plug and/or (need to check if and or or) external keyboard and mouse to USB, the laptop will not shut down as it will restart, but...

- When switching off, If I have no USB and/or no external monitor connected, the laptop will shut down and keep that state.

Any idea where the problem is? I mean, HP firmware or Microsoft software, as the hardware seams perfect.

Thanks in advance. Best regards,

You are very welcome @MO3112

I can imagine how puzzling it feels when the laptop behaves perfectly under Windows 10 but insists on restarting instead of shutting down under Windows 11, especially when external devices are connected.

You’ve already observed the difference with HDMI and USB peripherals, which is a very useful detail—thank you for checking that carefully.

Here are steps you can try to stabilize shutdown behavior in Windows 11:

Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads.
  • Enter your product number (366B5EA) and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and power management drivers. These updates often refine how the system interacts with external devices during shutdown.

Adjust Power Settings for USB and HDMI

  • Press Windows + X and select “Device Manager.”
  • Expand “Universal Serial Bus controllers.”
  • Right‑click each “USB Root Hub” > Properties > Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
  • This prevents USB devices from waking or interfering with shutdown.
  • For HDMI/Display adapters, ensure the graphics driver is updated from the HP site or Windows Update.

Disable Fast Startup

  • Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable.”
  • Uncheck “Turn on fast startup.”
  • This ensures shutdown is a full power‑off rather than a hybrid state that can trigger restarts with peripherals attached.

Check Advanced Power Options

  • In Power Options, select your active plan > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand “USB settings” > “USB selective suspend setting” and set it to “Disabled.”
  • Expand “PCI Express” > “Link State Power Management” and set it to “Off.”
  • These adjustments reduce conflicts with external devices during shutdown.

Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all pending updates. Microsoft often refines shutdown and peripheral handling in cumulative updates.

From your description, the hardware itself is fine—the difference lies in how Windows 11 manages connected devices during shutdown. Updating BIOS, drivers, and adjusting power management should help align the system so it powers down smoothly even with HDMI and USB devices connected.
