HP 2000laptop . laptop and was revived from death, with a few differnt HP laptops i had/and found around town , i rebuilt it about 5 years ago . I have been able too keep it running with spending anything out of pocket. she watches tv and streams her media and has been very very lucky with this zombie rebuild .Every 6 months .I take it apart and clean it up , never had an Issue untill now . Got it back togther and pulled in and .... nothing . No warnings or errors . so i checked out the cord, the prong in the middle of connection was missing so i ordered a new one and the power input light comes on but nothing else . so i took back apart and checked out the power button board but it seems all is good , no blown node in sight . I read a few dozen feeds about fixes on this issue , nothting ive come across has helped , i do feel a low vibration coming from from the heatsinc at least in that area . but it was a project that i had actually had a successful outcome for .the laptop has had a fantastic second run .if i cant seem to figure it out them it was meant to be , as we all do ,i believe it can go for a third run , theres been absolutely 0% issues thus far , my next guess is the power button board. i heard there was a way to bypass the power button where if done correctly ,it would just power on , only heard about through a differnt information collection but havnt been able to hunt down any info on it . any info i can find to help figure out when the laptop wont power on would be very much appreciated.

Hi @Nixmix420,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Check Power Supply and Battery

  • AC Adapter: Ensure the AC adapter is plugged into a functioning power outlet. Sometimes, the adapter or the outlet itself could be faulty.
  • Battery: Remove the battery and try powering the laptop directly through the AC adapter. If the laptop powers on without the battery, then the battery might be defective.

2. Perform a Hard Reset (for laptops with a removable battery)

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  4. Reconnect the battery and AC adapter.
  5. Try powering on the laptop.

3. Inspect Internal Connections

  • Reopen the Laptop: Carefully reopen the laptop and inspect all internal connections, particularly those related to the power supply. Make sure no cables or connectors were inadvertently left disconnected during cleaning.
  • RAM Check: Ensure that the RAM modules are securely seated in their slots. Sometimes, the RAM can become loose during handling.

4. Power Indicator Lights

Observe any power indicator lights on the laptop. If the indicator light doesn't turn on, the issue might be related to the power supply or motherboard.

5. Reset the BIOS

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
  2. Open the laptop and locate the CMOS battery (small circular battery on the motherboard).
  3. Remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes and then reinsert it.
  4. Reassemble the laptop and try powering it on.

6. Test with Different Power Adapter

If you have another compatible power adapter, try using it to power on the laptop. This will help determine if the adapter is at fault.

7. Additional Steps

  • Static Charge: Ensure your hands are clean and free of static electricity before touching any internal components.
  • Cooling Fan and Dust: Check that the cooling fan is functional and not obstructed by dust.

I hope this helps.
