No matter how I set the BIOS it will not boot from external media.  The is always a mark next to OS boot Manager and Notebook harddrive?

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if enabling the Legacy Mode setting and disabling the Secure Boot setting enables you to boot from other devices.

See this link for the settings to change...

Please see the picture above for the current BIOS settings!

Looking at your screenshot, you want to boot from the Legacy USB diskette on key for a USB flash drive, and the Legacy USB CD/DVD ROM drive if you want to boot from a DVD.

As you can see from the screen shot I have selected USB.  It will not boot from a bootable USB stick or a USB DVD, if selected!  What does the mark next to the OS bootmanager and notebook hard drive mean?

I have no idea.  It is probably the default boot device on both the Legacy and UEFI boot listings.

See if this works...and this will be the only other suggestion I can offer.

Have the device you want to boot from in the PC.

Turn the PC on, or restart it.

Tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the legacy USB diskette on key (flash drive) and press the enter key.

Hopefully the PC will now boot from the flash drive.

I have tried that already.  The choices I get are:

OS Boot Manager(UEFI) - Windows boot manager

Boot from EFI file

Notebook hard drive
