@acusser, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Windows 11 Upgrade Error: GPT Message!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When upgrading to Windows 11, you might encounter a message related to the GUID Partition Table (GPT). This message usually occurs because the system detects a difference between the primary GPT and the backup GPT. Here are steps to prevent or resolve this issue:

Preparation:

  • Ensure your system BIOS is updated to the latest version from the HP official website.
  • Verify that your system supports UEFI and Secure Boot.

Save/Restore GPT Option:

  • During the upgrade or installation process, you may be prompted to choose an action for the GPT mismatch. To prevent this error, you can configure BIOS options related to GPT settings.

Update BIOS Settings:

  • Access the BIOS Setup (F10) Utility during the system startup by pressing the F10 key when the monitor light turns green.
  • Navigate to the Security menu.
  • In the Hard Drive Utilities section, find the option Save/Restore GPT of System Hard Drive.
  • Ensure this feature is enabled so the system can save the GPT and automatically prompt for recovery if a mismatch is detected.
  • Configure the Boot Sector (MBR/GPT) Recovery Policy:
    • Set to Recover in the event of corruption to automatically recover without prompting, which can prevent the manual intervention required by the error message.

Opt for Correct Recovery Options:

  • If the message appears, opt for:
    • Enter 1 to overwrite backup GPT with HDD GPT: This option will synchronize the GPT structures, ensuring the primary and backup tables match the current HDD status.
    • Maintain regular backups before making changes to the partition tables to avoid data loss.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
