H p Envy 15 Notebook pc
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Upgraded from Google to Google chrome, now it won't boot up.  It shows 'boot device not found'. " please install an operating won your hard drive".  I preformed , Bios set up option, setup defaults, and a hardware system diagnostics. Memory is good.  Hard drive , 'quick check'  smart check - not installed,  short DST  not installed. ' Extensive'  smart check + Long DST  not installed.  Tried Test again,  Quick check - smart check + short DST   both passed.  Extensive  - smart check + Long DST  - not installed..

Other than finding a operating system to reinstall . I'm lost.

Please help,

@Tim314

Don't understand what you mean by "updated from Google to Google Chrome".

Google is a company; Chrome is a Browser.  You can't update from the first to the second.

Please explain in more detail what you actually did.

Sorry for the mix up in my laptop is running on windows 8, never had any problem with it.  Until now.  My web browser was IE, I  changed it to chrome.  I also uninstalled windows office,  and reinstalled after I put chrome on. Everything was working fine. I shut it off and the next day turned it back on. It booted up,   but it wouldn't let me login.  It froze,  so I couldn't enter my password.  I shut it off. And turned it back on.  'No boot device found.  Install operating sys. on hard disk.
