Hi @Pinch82,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP streaming laptop won't power on and you only see a flashing light when you press the power button, there could be several potential causes. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Ensure the laptop is completely powered off. If it’s not responding, hold down the power button for about 10-15 seconds to force it to turn off.
  • Disconnect the power adapter from the laptop and the power source.
  • If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
  • With the battery removed and the power adapter unplugged, press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. This helps to discharge any residual power.
  • Reinsert the battery (if you removed it) and plug the power adapter back in. Press the power button to turn on the laptop.

2. Check Power Supply and Connections:

  • Ensure the power adapter is properly connected to both the laptop and the wall outlet. Check for any visible damage to the adapter or cable.
  • Plug the power adapter into a different wall outlet to rule out any issues with the power source.
  • If possible, try using a different compatible power adapter to see if the issue is with the original adapter.

3. Inspect the Laptop for Hardware Issues:

  • If you’re comfortable opening the laptop, check for any loose or disconnected internal components such as RAM or hard drive connections.
  • Check for any visible signs of physical damage to the laptop or its components.

4. Perform a Battery Reset (if applicable):

  • Remove any external devices such as USB drives, printers, or external monitors.
  • With the laptop powered off and disconnected from the power source, press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. This can help reset the battery circuitry.

5. Check for BIOS or Firmware Issues:

  • If the laptop shows any signs of powering on but doesn’t boot up, try accessing the BIOS/UEFI settings. This usually involves pressing a specific key ( F10) during startup.
  • If you can access BIOS/UEFI and the system seems to be working, check if there’s an option to update the BIOS/UEFI firmware.

6. Check for Display Issues:

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV to see if the issue is with the laptop’s display.
  • Ensure that the brightness and contrast settings are not turned down too low.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
