Hi Lil_boy_blue,

Many thanks for coming along with a ladder to get me over this wall.

Are we going down the "copy Bios image to any file location". If yes I have managed to download those files.

Files downloaded as per the screen shot below. Should I now save those files into a folder called HEWLETT PACKAGE---BIOS---New files

Kind regards,

Hi

Recap...

I managed to create a USB from the downloaded HP file (E: HP_Tools), have you managed that?

Then looking thru the directory structure I noticed an empty folder on the USB.

Hi Lil_boy_blue,

The only file I have downloaded directly for HP is  - HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) - sp95307

Perhaps this is the dud file? (see screenshot below)

Not managed to create a flash usb file unfortunately. When I choose to select "create recovery usb flash drive" my usb stick doesn't appear, and so I can't select it.

When I choose "copy Bios image to any location" if I wanted to save to the usb then I could. No E: HP_Tools to be seen though. Just the list of binary files that I posted a screenshot of earlierHPNoteBook BiosUpdate.PNGNoUsbShowing.PNG

Kind Regards,

Hi

I think reformat your USB flash drive, until it is recognised.

Hi Li_boy_blue,

I had reformated my usb to FAT32 in hope that it would be recognised. The usb stick is fairly old, but I do know where I can get a new one.

Will try that later on today.

Cheers for all your help,

Bios

Hi Lil_boy_blue,

Got hold of a new 16GB usb. Its worked. Files have transferred.

Tried running the bios from the usb flash drive with no joy. Had a look thru the file directory on the usb and noticed the "new" folder in Bios was also empty. Perhaps this might explain why it hasn't worked.

So looks like I am back to the original problem, the bios not running.

The bios looks like its not running from the usb which may have something to do with the files on the usb. Another reason (according to the HP customer support knowledge base) is that there could be an issue with the hard-drive.

Im all ears if you have any further suggestions,

My earlier post refers....

Hi

So next I would copy the

HEWLETT PACKARD --- BIOS --- CURRENT           files

into

HEWLETT PACKARD --- BIOS --- NEW               files

so that there is something to write to the BIOS.

I assume you get the USB directory listings?

Hi Lil_boy_blue,

Things have gone from bad to worse.

Earlier, when I had files transferred to the USB flash, I plugged it into the laptop that wasn't working. Again i pressed the windows key & b key -> powered on -> still pressed window & b key and there was no reaction.

In my wisdom, I decided to remove the new SSD hard-drive, that I had recently upgraded, and replace it with the original hard-drive (my logic for this was that there might have been a copy of the bios on the old hard-drive) Anyway, that didn't work.

I then reinstalled the ssd hard-drive. Now when I go to power on the laptop the "on" button doesn't light and neither do I get the blinking light code of 5slow 3quick.

Apologies for not making things any easier, though any ideas on how to recover from where i'm at now?

Kind regards,

Bios123
