Hi @Purplerocker26,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your laptop was working normally and then suddenly shut off, and now will not power back on. I know how concerning that can be. Please try the following steps in order.

Step 1: Check the Power Adapter

  • Make sure the charger is firmly connected to both the laptop and the wall outlet.
  • If the adapter has an LED light, confirm it is lit.
  • Try a different wall outlet directly (avoid surge protectors temporarily).

Step 2: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect the charger.
  2. Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  3. If the battery is removable, remove it.
  4. Press and hold the Power button for 15–60 seconds
  5. Reconnect only the charger and try turning the laptop back on.

Step 3: BIOS Recovery

A corrupted BIOS can sometimes cause this exact behavior.

  1. Turn the laptop OFF completely.
  2. Press and hold:
    • Windows key + B
    • (If that does not work, try Windows key + V
  3. While holding the keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  4. Release only the Power button and continue holding the keys for another 10–15 seconds.
  5. Watch for:
    • Beeps,
    • Fan activity,
    • HP BIOS Recovery screen,
    • Or blinking LEDs.

Step 4: Check for Blinking Lights or Beep Codes

If the laptop still does not power on:

  • Watch the Caps Lock or Power light carefully.
  • Count any blinking pattern (for example, 2 blinks, pause, repeat).

HP systems use blink codes to identify hardware problems, such as:

  • Memory failure,
  • BIOS corruption,
  • Or motherboard issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
