HP sent me a replacement laptop, which arrived yesterday, and not a moment too soon. Yesterday morning it took 20 minutes to get the current one to switch on, even using the trick of resetting with the power unplugged. This morning it took even longer. Thankfully I've managed to set up the new one and can now use that. I just hope the same issue doesn't arise with the new one.

3 weeks in and so far so good. I actually remember when I received the first ZBook that I had trouble switching it on. I had to do a reset by holding the power key, but then it was fine after that for a few weeks. The replacement switched on immediately on opening the lid, so fingers crossed that's a good sign. If you have the same problem, I'd urge you to keep on at HP support till they do something about it.

My laptop starting doing this about 3 weeks ago. I put it to sleep when leaving work, and the next morning it either can be woken up or not.
Only way to bring it back to life when it won't wake up is to disconnect power, usb-c monitor, pressing the power button for 20 seconds. Then trying to turn it back on.. Once it's on, if I'm lucky I can connect the power adapter without issues, otherwise plugging in the power supply turns it off instantly.
Another ZBook Studio G8 at my workplace started exhibiting this behavior just a couple of days ago (it was issued a couple of weeks after mine was). This seems to indicate that some part is 'wearing out' over time.
HP has been notified and will come on site to repair mine.
I was wondering whether a motherboard or perhaps battery replacement has fixed it for anyone.

When mine first went wrong, they replaced the motherboard and this fixed the problem for a short time, maybe 2 to 4 weeks, and then it returned. They then took it away for diagnostics and found a fault with the battery, so they replaced it. However, this did not fix the problem.
Touch wood, I've had the replacement ZBook for a month and there's been no sign of this problem so far.

Mine has also now started doing this. Seems I have to wait for the laptop to be running Windows for a minute or two before risking plugging in the charger - otherwise it switches off 😞

The diagnostic software that comes loaded on the laptop always reports no fault found.
Trying to get in touch with HP Support now ...

I'm wondering this.
HP officials do not read the complaints written on this form at all.
Why are they not taking action on this?
Those who report problems here do not write for the sake of sport.
A problem not worthy of HP

Spent about half an hour in a chat with HP Support. Very helpful and friendly lady - but she does have a prescribed recipe that she has to work through. I have shared a link to this page with her - not sure if she's looked at all, but at least the link is in my case history now.
Anyways, as per her recipe, I will be getting a replacement charger in the next few days to see if it resolves the problem.
Now, as an Electronic engineer, I do agree that the charger can indeed be the cause of the problem and I'm hopeful that it does! I will report what happens ...
