HP ZBOOK 15 workstation

Hi everyone,

I was trying to install Windows from a USB stick. The system would not boot from USB so I tried setting UEFI and USB boot as first device. The bios was originally set to non-UEFI mode.

Since saving and rebooting, it has not posted since. The monitor will not turn on. I have tried plugging in an external monitor to the vga port and no display on that either. I have tried the WINKEY+B and/or WINKEY+V combination for bios recovery, still nothing shows up on both monitors. The activity light on the USB stick with bios recovery does flash, so there seems to be activity for a little while, however since monitor does not come up, I can not see what it is doing.

I don't expect the monitor to be bad as it worked flawlessly up until the bios change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

**SOLVED**

After looking at all different kinds of tutorial pdfs and videos, I accidently came up with the solution. When I tried plugging in an external monitor and booting up, nothing displayed. However, in the process of disconnecting the CMOS battery, the external monitor came to life. First thought this was due to the CMOS battery being removed, but found out it was due to the laptop being closed. With the laptop open, it would not post to the external monitor.

After re-connecting the CMOS battery and resetting the bios with the lid open only enough to get access to the keyboard and power button, but enough for the external monitor to register, it was a quick fix. I quickly switched the Boot sequence back to LEGACY and everything is back to normal.

Just thought I would pass on this information as I never saw it posted it in any tutorials. If you do plug in an external monitor and it does not post, try closing the lid as soon as you power the laptop, or have it connected to a docking station. Not always will the external monitor post with the laptop open.
