I wish we could help you, but sorry, due to recent changes in Community policy, we are no longer able to provide any assistance with password reset or recovery issues.

Also please note that now, to resolve a forgotten BIOS or power-on password issue, since that password is embedded into the firmware of the system board, to replace that, a system board replacement is required -- and additional customer costs apply, and while the costs vary by laptop model, they are generally around $200 USD. HP has issued this post about BIOS passwords: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06368824.

In addition, according to the Community's Rules of Participation (which you can read from here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/custom/page/page-id/hp.rulespage😞

4d. No posts shall include instructions or directions intended to bypass or subvert security measures, including passwords, locking mechanisms, fingerprint scans, etc., or to bypass any safety measures.

For assistance NOW, you have to contact your regional HP Customer Support location directly as they will confirm ownership of the PC before providing any assistance -- something we are not able to do from here.

Similar to others who have posted here for Power on Password resolution, I face a similar issue without even setting up the BIOS password. I have been told by HP Service that its a chip issue. Also, I shall have to pay for the replacement even though it is under warranty and barely used (purchased it barely a month back).

 

"A forgotten BIOS password cannot be reset by HP. HP is committed to the security and privacy of our customers. To resolve a forgotten BIOS password issue, a system board replacement is required, and additional customer costs apply"

 

I think this is a very unfair and uncalled for move! By locking the BIOS, no way is the security & privacy being maintained. The hard drive is still unencrypted and data can easily be misused. 

 

Only HP is gaining from this by charging a high fee for replacing system board. May better sense prevail and HP resolves this!
