I used ccleaner Pro for first time. All went well until I tried their suggestion to update 15 driver. Then upon reboot laptop would display HP logo with message "preparing automatic repair " and it just continues to loop and nothing happens. I have a recovery usb drive for win 10 but have gotten conflicting direction from websites on how to use it with function keys..some say use esc + f11....some say hold fn button down and tap f8. For a brief moment i saw some small text on screen that read "system thread exception not handled". I am at wits end, and cant get system to boot. HELP PLEASE I HAVE WORK TO DO FOR MY JOB.

Hi@MplsMN,
Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!
I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Envy Notebook PC not booting to windows just goes to preparing automatic repair.
The BIOS can be corrupted during normal operation from a failed BIOS upgrade, or damage from a virus.
Recover the BIOS using a key press combination.
Turn off the computer. Press and hold the Windows + b keys, and continue to press those keys while you press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds. Release the power button, but continue pressing the Windows + b keys.
The power light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything is displayed. You might hear a series of beeps (usually 8 beeps). Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen is displayed and the BIOS update begins automatically.
NOTE: If the HP BIOS Update screen is not displayed, press and release the power button, and then immediately press the Windows + b keys at the same time, repeatedly, until the computer beeps or opens the HP BIOS Update screen.
After the BIOS is recovered, a Continue Startup button is displayed and a timer counts down. Click the Continue Startup button to restart the computer immediately, or wait for the computer to restart automatically when the timer reaches zero.
If issue still persist then test the hard drive using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI to rule out other hard drive issues
- Start or restart the computer.
- Press F2 repeatedly during start up to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI utility.
- Select Component Tests > Hard Drive > Quick Test.
- Click Run Once.
Once the test completes, results are displayed on the screen.
If the drive passes all tests, continue to restore a computer back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.
The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Wow ! I am very impressed ! Clear, concise, printed instructions and assistance. Thank you. The BIOS update went according to your instructions. Took a LONG time to boot up windows sign in screen with time and photo and then a long time to load desktop but eventually I was up and running !!! YEAH !! Very happy !! I led computer stay in sleep mode for several hours as it seemed to want to load updates. In the evening did some photo editing and shut down.........................NOW THIS MORNING,
when I turn it on, I get the same screen as before with HP logo and auto repair message then screen goes to a a new message:
"Your computer ran into a problem and needs to restart, we will restart it for you."
Underneath it said: "Stop code system thread not handled"
"ia StoreA.sys "
See www.windows.com/stop code
Geez I thought we had this solved. The HardDrive check showed no problems. Is this problem with the IntelRapid Start drive?

My computer HP Envy Notebook 15-j171nr was purchased in 2014. HP website says the cloud recovery tool is designed for computers made after 2016.
When I upgraded to WIN 10 I made a recovery file on a USB. My problem is that I do not know how to use this USB. I have read conflicting advice on which function key to use. I do not know how to use the function keys.
On the HP website there are lots of videos about Startup Repair but my computer does not allow me to get to the screen which gives the option of restart or advanced options. My computer locks at a screen with a small HP logo and then the message looping over and over again that is preparing an automatic repair...which never occurs even if I let computer run for hours.
Following your advice I WAS unable to update the BIOS and things worked until I shut computer down. On restart the problem reappeared. How can I use the USB recovery drive to do a system restore ? What function key do I use ?

Hi@MplsMN,
Thank you for responding, I appreciate your time and effort.
You can try doing Recovery from F11. To access recovery partition and recovery system with HP Backup and Recovery Manager, the built-in recovery tool for HP, turn on HP computer and immediately press the Esc key to display the Startup Menu, and then press F11 to access the HP system recovery.
