@mightyheart65, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding BIOS Not Recognizing USB Hard Drive on HP Pavilion dv5000!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
When BIOS is not recognizing your USB hard drive, it may require adjustments to the boot sequence or BIOS settings. Here are the steps you can follow to resolve this issue:
Starting Setup Utility (BIOS)
- Turn on or restart the computer.
- Quickly press esc and then press f10 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
Changing the Boot Order
To ensure the USB drive is recognized as a boot device, you need to adjust the boot order in BIOS:
Access Boot Options:
- While in BIOS Setup Utility, use the arrow keys to navigate to the Boot menu.
- Locate the Boot Order or similar option.
Modify Boot Sequence:
- Set the USB hard drive as the first boot device. You can typically do this by selecting the USB device from the list and using the provided keys (often + or -) to move it to the top of the list.
- Make sure to save your changes before exiting the BIOS. This is usually done by pressing f10 and confirming with Enter.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
