HP Laptop PC 15t-dw300 CTO

Running a Pavilion 15-DW3000. I can boot and run Ubuntu 24,04,4 LTS with no errors including Wi-Fi access and USB thumb-drive read and write functions. It also passes all bios (UEFI) tests without errors.

However normal boot tries for Windows and fails with no recovery options except bios. Trying older versions fail.

If I request bios to run Windows network repair it fails. It finds the (forgotten) server and asks for password. If I provide an incorrect password it immediately fails. If I provide the correct password it tries to connect for a couple minutes and fails. I assume it is failing to find or connect to it’s network target.

I can boot-esc to run Ubuntu but not Windows. I can also boot a USB Ubuntu startup thumb-drive.

Other attempts to boot USB thumb-drives created by Windows fail. These include ones formatted on another Windows machine to update bios, install Windows or repair windows.

I have also followed the restore bios factory settings in cmos without noticeable change.

I assume an error somewhere in bios or windows files needs repair but see no opportunity for repair. I assume I have a couple options left which will require more research in how, including:

Erase and reformat the Windows partition using terminal in Ubuntu.

Find a Ubuntu path to bios update (I have the Windows bios repair program but it won’t run in Ubuntu).

The only suggestion I can offer would be to use another Windows PC to create a USB recovery drive with the latest BIOS update on your notebook's support page (F.68):

Watch these two videos at the links below for how to make and use the BIOS recovery flash drive to recover or update the BIOS outside of Windows.

You do not have to boot from the USB BIOS recovery flash drive.
