I have an HP omen 16 prod #76W22AV. recently, The past 4 months when I an using for school it gives me a blue screen with a message that says your device has encountered an error and needs to restart, and then it restarts. It also has gone totally black a few times on start up. Also I got a CMOS failure screen the other day. Help please.

@Mutt_80, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on your description, frequent blue screens, black screen on startup, and a CMOS failure message your OMEN by HP 16-wf0000 laptop is likely experiencing a combination of hardware and firmware issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Perform a Hard Reset
This clears residual electrical charge and resets the hardware.
- Power off the laptop.
- Disconnect all external devices and unplug the power adapter.
- Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try turning it on.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)
This will help identify hardware issues, including memory or motherboard problems.
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press Esc repeatedly as you power it on, then press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Run System Tests (especially Memory and Hard Drive tests).
Reset BIOS/CMOS
Since you received a CMOS failure message, resetting BIOS settings may help.
- Enter BIOS by pressing Esc > F10 during startup.
- In BIOS, press F9 to load setup defaults.
- Press F10 to save and exit.
If the CMOS error persists, the CMOS battery on the motherboard may need replacement, this typically requires service.
Update BIOS and Drivers
Outdated firmware can cause blue screens and instability.
- Visit the HP OMEN 16-wf0000 Support Page.
- Download and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and graphics drivers.
- Restart your system after updates.
Check for Windows Corruption
Use System File Checker and DISM tools:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
Then run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
