Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Please, I need to boot using a USB pen to use Windows Defender Offline.

So I need to modify Boot Options not permanently, but just for this use. I have a ProBook 455 G2 and windows 7 professional. How can I do?

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome !

You can do this by using Esc/F9 or just F9

- Please, shutdown the computer using the power button (pressed and hold for a few seconds until PC powers off)

- Plug in (or insert) the bootable media you want to boot from (e.g. USB with WD Offline)

- Power the computer back on.

As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap) before any logo appears. This should open a HP Startup Menu

- Choose F9 to open Boot Menu options

- Select the USB as bootable options

- If the device contains bootable image and if that image has been written properly, it will boot.

Just my tips/tricks/opinion - if you are about to clean malware from infected PC, don't use Windwos Defender which is very poor. Free options are the live discs of ESET (Eset Live Resuce) and Kaspersky (Kaspersky Rescue Disk)

Hope this helps.

Thank you. I did some variations. I shut down the computer normally using Start. Then I powered the computer on and pressed F9.

However Windows Defender Offline does not work because it says it can not connect to the Internet and it can not update.

Hi,

Based on your description, I can conclude the original issue has been solved - I mean you can successfully boot from a live USB media and Windows Defender Offline. Am I correct ?

With regards to your other questions - I have used WD Offline long time ago and I don't remember its interface and if it had any option for configuration of the network and network adapters. In order for it to update, you will need:

1) to have active Internet connection in the Internet adapter (e.g. Ethernet LAN or Wi-Fi)

2) The IP needs to be given by DHCP server/device

If you need to scan the PC for threats, I recommend you use ESET SysRescue or Kaspersky Rescue Disk

They are better at malware detection and removal, they run on the base of GNU/Linux operating system, have additional functions such as file browser, network configuration, etc... You will be able to configure your specific network settings and update them.

May I ask you why you need to scan your PC for threats using live USB disk ? What is the initial problem and symptoms ?

Hi,

Yes I solved the original issue.

I have active Internet connection, but Windows Defender Offline does not work.

What do you mean by “2) The IP needs to be given by DHCP server/device”?

My problem is deloton.com

I have tried many solutions free, but I have not solved: Malwarebytes, Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit, Adwcleaner, Spybot-S&Dt, Rogue Killer, SuperAntiSpyware, Chrome Cleanup Tool, JRT, Spyware Terminator, Microsoft Safety Scanner, Advanced System Care and three free antivirus: Avast, Avira, Norton.

Thank you for your confirmation.

The IP address is the unique address of your computer in your local network (e.g. in your home network).

In a home network, the DCHP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server role is being performed by the router.

There are several types of IP addresses - like IPv4 and IPv6. Also, the addresses are dynamic and static. Most are dynamic and are being changed often (at some interval). IP addresses can be assigned manually or automatically. Most are assigned automatically from the DHCP server when a PC connects to the local network.

If your PC or local network uses some special network settings (like manually assigned IP address, proxy, PPPoE connection, etc) these needs to changed manually because they are not the default/most common option and need tweaking in the operating system. Your operating system is Windows Defender Offline when you boot from it.

**

By the way, I just checked Windows Defender Offline again. It has pretty basic interface and relies on automatic network configuration. It looks to me that it can update itself only with default DHCP enabled networks (I don't see network config settings). Also, it might not be able to detect your network card adatper driver - you use Windows 7. Just ignore Defender temporary...**

What was the output of the scans of these apps - did the detect the pest buf fail to remove it ?

You can try to:

1. Perform the instructions mentioned here >> https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-deloton-com/

2. Also, scan with ESET Online Scanner free >> https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/

Make sure you adjust the scan so that it can detect Potentially UnSafe and UnWanted apps

3. Restore your browsers to default settings (all the browsers you may have) >> https://www.google.bg/search?ei=8_gyWs3eDcm96ATC14WIDw&q=site%3Amalwaretips.com+restore+browser+sett...

4. Scan with the Kaspersky Live media (mentioned above)

I suggest you ignore Windows Defender Offline as it will not help you remove the malware redirection or the malware itself. If you tried Microsoft Safety Scanner already, you have scanned with a Microsoft product already.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi,

I have solved my problem with deloton.

I restored the operating system, and first time I connected to the Internet, deloton appeared.

So I have understood that the virus was in the modem and not in the computer.

My modem is adsl ethernet.

So I have set up my modem, particularly DNS, and deloton has not reappeared
