caps lock blinking 5-3

Without recognizable pattern my Caps Lock button will begin a blinking sequence of 5 'slow' pause then 3 rapid blicks.  When this begins the keyboard cannot be used - but the mouse functions.  Goes away on restart (so far).  Has happened 3-4 times during last month.

Can you match the sequence of 'blinks' to those shown in the table below.

Thanks for the assist.  If I interpret correctly I would have general system board failure and a memory module not functional.  Drat.  Is there any software you would recomment to specifically test these and other hardware components?
