Hi @mikespc17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT is a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error that indicates a processor (CPU) thread has stopped responding. It is commonly associated with outdated or incompatible drivers, overheating, faulty memory (RAM), BIOS issues, or corrupted system files.

To help narrow down the cause, could you please let me know:

  • What is the model number of your HP computer?
  • Did the error occur only once, or has it happened multiple times?
  • Were you using a specific application when it happened, or was the system idle?
  • Were there any recent Windows updates, BIOS updates, or driver updates before the issue started?

In the meantime, please try the following:

  1. Restart the PC and check whether the error occurs again.
  2. Run Windows Update and install any pending updates.
  3. Open HP Support Assistant and install any available BIOS, chipset, and driver updates recommended for your model.
  4. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI:
    • Turn off the PC.
    • Turn it back on and repeatedly press Esc, then press F2.
    • Run the System Tests, especially the Processor, Memory, and Hard Drive/SSD tests.
  5. If the issue started recently, perform a System Restore to a date when the computer was working normally.

If the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT error continues after these checks, please share:

  • The model number of your HP PC.
  • The full stop code, if there were any additional details shown on the blue screen.
  • A photo of the BSOD, if possible.
  • The results of the HP Hardware Diagnostics.

With that information, I'll be happy to help determine whether the issue is related to the BIOS, drivers, memory, or another hardware component and guide you with the next appropriate steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
